Unifying U.S. Through Art
A powerful exhibition presented by African Americans For The Arts (AAFTA), a collective of Atlanta-based artists dedicated to amplifying cultural narratives and social commentary through their work. Founded in 1998, AAFTA serves as a dynamic force in the African American and Diasporic African arts community, fostering collaboration and creative expression across disciplines.
This exhibition showcases a compelling collection of visual art that speaks to the resilience, identity, and lived experiences of its creators. More than a reflection of history, these works engage with contemporary events, offering bold perspectives on social justice, culture, and the ever-evolving artistic landscape.
“provide a home for me”
A striking visual shot by fine art photographer faif Quin, “provide a home for me” contemplates the consistent presence of spirituality across the African Diaspora.
faif’s religious upbringing has often clashed with her queer identity, and this led to an identity crisis: to be of God meant to abandon who she is, & to be queer meant to be abandoned, by God. Here, faif contemplates a third, alternate reality wherein her access to spirituality is not cut off from her; instead, it follows her wherever she goes, instilling Ancestral values and guiding her through life’s many challenges. faif finds comfort in the spiritual healing this alternative perspective offers: home can always be found.
“provide a home for me” is on display in the spring exhibition, “Unifying U.S. Through Art”, currently showing at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Check out the full series here!
