NEW DROP:

the American’s Dilemma pt. iii: DESTINY’S MANIFEST.

from the ongoing parent series dreams i cannot escape. YEAR: 2025.

faif Quin explores the American condition through a critical lens, by deconstructing the American flag into a makeshift room with the backdrop of a building that appears to be rotting, one strong wind gust away from falling apart. It stands strong, however; it hovers brutally over the two hardworking Americans in the foreground.

DESTINY’S MANIFEST. depicts two Americans stood on a white couch, a red wall of plywood behind them. To the right, a piece of Ol’ Glory Blue colored lace appears to float. There’s another piece on that blows in the wind off of the mirror that’s off to the right. The two American men stand with their arms interlocked, facing different directions while blindfolded. A rose is held up by their interlocked arms, and a vase is on the foreground, with dead flowers scattered about.

“The conclusion piece to this series, I like to think that it stands in protest. While the others offer a glimpse into the conditions of the modern American, this one offers the notion that our destinies can be reclaimed—or, furthermore, were never up for grabs in the first place.” - faif Quin

the American’s Dilemma pt. ii: DREAMS, DEFERRED.

from the ongoing parent series dreams i cannot escape. YEAR: 2025.

DREAMS, DEFERRED. depicts two Americans sitting on a white couch, a red wall of plywood behind them. To the right, a piece of Ol’ Glory Blue colored lace appears to float. There’s another piece on that blows in the wind off the plywood, and a a third that appears to hover in front of the rotting church. The two American men, one seated on the couch arm, one on the couch, are blindfolded. They hold a vase of dead flowers, together.

“I often hear whispers,” faif Quin says. “It’s not a sixth sense. I’ll walk a new park, or dance in a different bar, or fly over a beautiful cloud…and I’ll hear whispers of vivid lives once lived. I find that the most depressing ones, are the ones that depict the most resilience.”

the American’s Dilemma pt. i: DRAPETOMANIA

from the ongoing parent series dreams i cannot escape. YEAR: 2025

DRAPETOMANIA depicts two Americans sitting on a white couch, a red wall of plywood behind them. To the right, a mirror stands, blanketed with blue lace. In the back, a rotting church stands unswayed. The two American men, one seated on the couch arm, one on the couch, are blindfolded. They hold a vase of dead flowers, together.

“My parents are immigrants,” faif Quin elaborates. “I think, to me, the vase of dead flowers might represent whatever they thought they were looking for when they sought refuge here. As someone who was raised on the other side of understanding American society, perhaps I feel that I’m able to see something that maybe they can’t.

I also think, though, that I identify with the withered flowers, being cut from their life source and offered as a commodity. Perhaps the individuals that uphold it are blinded to that irony, or perhaps they simply don’t want to see it.

This is an ongoing series, and I do think there’s a bit of a narrative between its sister pieces, so maybe there’s more to the story.”
